The Knossos is a very traditional Cretan urn, and is modelled on pithoi discovered at the Minoan palace of Knossos when it was excavated in 1900. The Knossos pot was used to store oil, grains, dried fish, beans, and olives for the palace, and for trade.

The style

A sculptural pithos or pot creates an elegant focal point and structure in your garden all year round. They look wonderful indoors too, adding character to an orangery or conservatory. Characterised by their distinctive curvy shape and narrow neck, we don’t always recommend planting directly into these pots, but you can add a planter inside for a seasonal display.

The craft

This decorative pot was hand thrown at our pottery in Crete, and is made from the highest quality Cretan terracotta. Every pot will have its own unique patina, so yours may differ slightly from the one shown above. The unique blend of the clay, and the firing method used creates a superior, frost-resistant pot that is capable of withstanding the harshest of UK winters.
